Prospect School 5th Grade Orchestra

Our fifth grade Orchestra is made up of twenty-nine very dedicated students. We have eighteen violins, seven violas, and four celli.  We love practicing at home.  Our parents sometimes ask us to stop, but we know it takes lots of practice to get better.  Many students joined orchestra because it looked like fun.  Some students  had Ms. Thomas in third and fourth grade and enjoyed working with her at the time, so they joined Orchestra.  Three students played before fifth grade and are members of the Langston Middle School Honors Orchestra.
Some of the beginners are working  hard in hopes of getting good enough for  Honors Orchestra.  We enjoy Ms. Thomas as our Orchestra teacher because she is funny and explains things clearly.
We are working on our second memory song "March".  We have mastered parts one, two, and three.  We are excited about learning part four so that we can complete this assignment  and move on.  Our violins just started the A major scale and the viola and cello sections learned the C major scale.   We now know all of the notes on all four strings.  Many students played flutophone in fourth grade and liked it so much they wanted to join Orchestra to pursue another instrument. We also liked the stories that Ms. Thomas told us to help us play our instruments better.  Many students enjoy the rewards received for doing good work.  Our class works hard to get good grades and prepare for the Concert.  For some, it has been a lifelong dream to play a stringed instrument.   Many students  would like to become professional string players.  Some just want to get good enough to play with friends or family members.
We have some very good players in Orchestra. Even though many just started, they are improving at a rapid pace.  Some students are getting help from older family members and friends.  Some have sought private teachers.  Many students give up their lunch recess time two days a week to come in for extra help.

We are determined to be good.
The Fifth Grade Orchestra has their silly moments, but we always triumph in the end.  We are all happy we chose to join Orchestra.
