From the Director..

Happy New Year to All!
Its is hard to believe that we are entering the second half of the 2004-05 School Year. This is proving to be a great year for the Orchestra Program. Membership in each Orchestra continues to grow and the music standard for each group is improving.
We can all be extremely pleased with the performance of all the of the Orchestras at their Winter Concerts. At this time each group is working on scales, arpeggios, improvement of technical skills, and eagerly preparing new music for the Spring Concerts and Tours. The Oberlin School Orchestra Program now includes seven Orchestras:


Rusty is our sixth grade bass player

and meets the musical needs of 150+ students. Prospect Fifth Grade Orchestra meets two days per week. Sixth Grade Orchestra rehearses four days per week. Seventh, Eighth, and High School Orchestras meet everyday. Honors Orchestra and Independent Orchestra meet once a week..

OHS Orchestra

The Oberlin HS Orchestra is made up of two Orchestras. Class Orchestra and Independent Orchestra. Class Orchestra meets daily and is made up of thirty-five string players. Independent Orchestra currently has fourteen members and meets on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45pm. All students are required to practice outside the normal class period. They must also attend class to prepare music in preparation for concerts and Tours. The rehearsal, practice, and performances, helps to insure improvement of musical skills and the standard of the group.

This Year the Orchestra is eagerly preparing for their Philadelphia, PA Tour. The tour will begin May 18th with School Concerts at Prospect Elementary, Langston Middle, and Oberlin HS. The Orchestra will have their Spring Concert in the High School Auditorium the same evening at 7:30pm. Following the evening Concert, the orchestra will board their Charter Motor Coach Bus and head for Philadelphia. Activities include: Concert Performance, attending classes at the Philadelphia HS for Girls, participation in a Music Workshop at the Kimmel Center, and attending a Philadelphia Orchestra Pops Concert.
The $325.00/per student /chaperone will cover the entire cost of the Tour. In past years the orchestra has visited and /or performed in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, New York, three times to Disney world in Orlando, Florida, and aboard two Cruise ships in Nassau, Bahamas, and Baja, Mexico. This will be the third High School Orchestra to travel and perform in Philadelphia.
